Ok for those of you who read my first question further down the page on 'Tracing a pay as you go phone', I have now had a text saying they are alerted everytime I switch my phone on! I turned it on last night and sure enough they text me straight away and they even named the village where i live! How can this be? Help!!

It is easy for the authorities to pinpoint the location of a mobile phone - they know your position because of the satellites and transmitters you are connecting to.

The emergency services have certainly found injured people using this method - and the police have found criminals.

Looks like you'll be buying a new phone.
Unless you text him or someone back with a particular message - he wont have legal access to that information. My Guess is that he's guessing !! He could have text you and if your phone was off the text would have been queued up ready for when your phone is switched on and hey presto as soon as you do - it comes through. He's bluffing unless he has access to vodaphone's staff and normally you can't just do that - even the police can't do that without a very good reason - such as murder or another serious crime.

This is smilar to the text you would have received if it was done legally.

Actually, the text did come through at exactly the same time as i got a phone call just before and i ignored it, the text says he knows when i turn my phone on! How can this happen without any consent?
Maybe hes taken a clever guess. Or he probably worked out it was you and knows that he can twist it around so the jokes on you.
Take it a lesson learnt and either change your phone or ignore the messages.
It can't.

He knows that the txts are stored and he knows that you tend to turn your phone off - he may ring the number and get the voice mail straight away - that way he assumes the phone is off - then sends atxt knowig that you'll get it as soon as you turn your phone on. He's bluffing to make you think that he knows. I'd out bluff him.

Or safer still ignore it as it's a game that could get out of hand.
if he is going to all this effort to trace you, i suspect the texts you sent were somewhat worse than a joke!

if they were genuinely light hearted jokes, surely he'd just ignore them...?

i think you have been sending some really sick and weird texts and thats why he is going to all this effort.

stop it now, because if he does trace you, you will be in trouble.

He may have already gone to the police, or alerted his phone company.

If a formal complaint has been made - you can be traced. Have no doubt about it.

I can honestly say I never sent any sick or twisted texts, I wouldn't ever do that! There was no use of swear words or anything. He just can't stand not knowing who it is and has somehow got his mate to connect him to something which tracks my phone!!!
it cannot be done...you can transfer numbers between networks so for all he knows you could have taken a vodafone number to any other network...
