My Escort idles erratically . It nearly stalls and then revs up repeatedly. This occours after idling for a few minutes when warm. I've tried changing the mass air flow thingy to no avail. Is there some other sensor that would cause this? I'd be glad of some advice.

I had this problem on my old lancia and it turned out to be the heat sensor which fits into the water jacket surrounding the engine .Most embarrasing sitting at lights .It revved up and pulling away it stalled. It was relatively cheap to replace but boy was it a bum to find out -nearly two years.Worth a try
