On a recent holiday in Mallorca I noticed plastic bags attached to boxes hanging out of trees in wooded areas- what are they for and what are they called?

oh yeah i remember them from my holiday, i was quite confused aswel, my family and i had a lot of theories, mostly to do with animals...

They may be insect traps used to map infestations of some specie of pest destructive to trees. I have seen similar traps used here (US).
