my mother in law who lives on her own has ordered a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom lino/flooring, the total price is 279.00 of which she has paid out 100.00 when ordering.

she took the day off work as arranged for fitters to deliver and install flooring, nobody turned up so at 3 p.m she rang up and was told they'd be down within the hour. The fitter turned up and the man said he couldn't do it as his wife was due to have a baby, so she arranged for the following day losing another day off work which is today (tues) after fitting the kitchen floor they left at dinnertime and never returned to do the 2 other rooms, also unplugging her freezer and not plugging it back in. the freezer was quite full and she has to go into work tomorrow although she tried to ring the firm to no avail.?

i would suggest, don't pay anything else untill the job is finnished to her satisfaction.call or visit the shop supplying the goods and explain that they have a duty to use skilled fitters and to do the job properly. try to haggle a discount for needing a third day off to allow them to fit the rest and make sure it's at a time that suits her, not ' when we can fit you in'
also if she goes to the shop tell her to make sure if possible other customers know she has a complaint by talking loudly 'cos the shop won't like the bad publicity!
and lastly, try to make sure the fitter is always in view 'cos you never know when they may have a ' little look about '
