Help me name Children's series from 80's

Can anyone remember a children's series which screened in the 80's that featured a big (friendly) green monster and an owl that used to sing a song that went something like 'twit-twit-twoo' and then they would open the door to this tree they had and an object would appear inside it! Bizarre I know but I would love to know the name! Thanks!
