I'm looking at buying a hand drawing which is 'signed' by Antoni Gaudi. The drawing has been given an age estimate of 1955-1960, but... snagaroonie.... Gaudi died in 1925. So either the picture is genuine but its age has been miss calculated, or its a fake (which is regretably more likely).

I would be buying it from an antique dealer so there is a money-back guarentee if it turns out to be fake, but they shouldn't be getting the date wrong.... dilema!!

Is there any way or any where I can authenticate the picture in the UK? Museums, specialists, even carbon dating??

Thanks :-)

Yup, and he was it by a tram so was VERY dead!

My thoughts exactly, they sold for 30 in the end, I missed it. He is my favourite architect so wouldn't have loved to own the sketch, but the dates are all wrong.

I matched some signatures too, and that was another anomoly - not the same. I think its a sketch copy by a student somewhere (1955 say) which over time has been passed around, like Chinese whispers with paper. Though a bit of me will still niggle at whether I just missed out.....
