Do the peoples of Romania and Bulgaria fall under a generic term like Slavic?

Or are they descended from entirely seperate ethnic groups. If so what would those be.

I'm writing something on their accession to the EU, and wondered if there was a generic term for people from that region. The two countries do border each other.

Bulgarians are South Slavic
Romanians are romanians or 'vlachs'.

I would say that romanian ancestors were ''daci'' and ''romans'' and therefore now, romanians are known as being latins( italy, france, spain, etc..)
