14:48, I'm not allowed to use the correct term any more so EW is the closest approximation I can think of.

Funny it is not illegal to own any sword but there are restrictions on selling them. Seems odd.

indeed. the law seems to be something of a mess.

Untitled, different mindset in china but i get your point, arm the police, fully trained first of course, if they come up against mad stabbers, just shoot them like a rabid dog, plus thye won't do it again..same with drug dealers pimps jihadist rapists pedo's

armed police also kill an awful lot of innocent people though. look at the USA

i don't see how the police could have done better here to be honest... from the first call they were there in 20 minutes and took him out very quickly. i know i am often critical of the police but i cannot fault them here

spanish police seem the have a grip on there law an order to a certain degree..

I'll be honest, it was the first word I was expecting to be censored there, i didn't even twig the double meaning of the second one!

//taking steps to stop this happening again//

Perhaps Mayor Khan should allow the police to robustly exercise Stop and Search. It was he who appeased his loyal followers by telling them he would reign in the police use of it on the usual suspects. Of course it's never his fault that knife crime is soaring and he has the brass neck to state it's falling under his watch.

Every thread on this kind ofn story degenerates into pathetic name-calling.

The avergae age of posters on this site is 62 not 16. Why not act your age?

Also - since when did moderators on the site allow their status to be known?

I don't think this particular killer would have been viewed by the police as a potential stop and search target

Some mods have been publicly known for years, SP - but you should know that.  What's your problem?

SP, I had no choice.  When the ABEd offered me the 'job' it was on condition that it was publicly known on AB that I am a mod.  The Ed wants new mods to be known.

Like you, Barry, I was invited publicly - but I would have chosen to be a named mod anyway.  I think it's a courtesy to other ABers.  I would have thought anyone who's been here for as long as SP has would have been aware of the named mods.  They've been known for years.

what do you know about this assailant that makes you write that. I would suggest that it is highly likely be the police will state the assailant is known to them and I fear there may be another case whereby they may have to refer themselves N to the Independant Police Authority.

Hope I am wrong.

They don't seem to have released much information about him yet.

I believe this time the suspect was not known to the police.

Although he's bearded, he's white, and in his mid 30s.

I'd say that's not a description of a typical stop and search candidate.

Though time will tell.

Retro, the police say they have no record of him.

If the images are accurate, it does avoid the usual suspects embarrassing themselves by joining the dots of perceived ethnicity, and arriving at the utterly mistaken conclusion that the suspect must be an immigrant/Muslim/maniac ...

You can delete any that don't fit the predetermined profile.

Although, on second thoughts, don't bother  - they never do ...
