A recent flight to Europe by a popular cut price airline, put it's passengers knowingly at risk. The 737 was flying from Germany and it was brought to the pilots' attention before take off that one of the doors was faulty. Bear in mind what happened recently to a 737 in Alaska. The pilot was instructed to make the flight but ensure that none of the passengers sat next to the faulty door, just in case they accidently opened it. A deliberate and blatant case of neglect by the airline who were fortunate to get away with operating the flight with a faulty door on a 737. Unbeleivable but true.

What happened in Alaska wasn't actually a functioning door - it was a panel that had been incorrectly fitted to replace a door. Just sayin'

Additionally I think it would be difficult to open a door in flight. The doors have to be moved inwards to open and the cabin pressure (at altitude) would prevent this. I suspect the fault was something to do with the locking mechanism.

I think Frankie Valli said it best.

My eyes! A door due.

Thanks for the replies folks. Although your knowledgeable answers would hardly have been of any comfort to the passengers, would it? Oh, that's ok then. It's just a faulty door but Alaska was only a panel. Just sayin'. Enjoy your flight though. 😊

Sometimes I'm glad I'm Aerophobic and never fly 😀

Lessons aren't always learnt. Turkish Airlines flight 981 in March 1974 wouldn't have crashed if lessons from American Airlines Flight 96 in June 1972 had been learnt. On those occasions it was the cargo doors.
