Balmoral is to be opened to the general public.  Tours and afternoon teas will be available.

It seems the present generation of royals don't want it as a summer retreat.

Osbourne was given to the national by Queen Victoria's son.  How long before Balmoral goes the same way?

The late Queen only owned two properties privately ,Balmoral and Sandringham. The others are all part of the Crown Estates.

Balmoral Castle in a scenic area of Scotland.

All stolen from the state at some point in history.

Multiple estates, castles and palaces they live in for a few weeks a year and then preach to the peasants about caring about homelessness and the environment 🙄

£100 a pop to look at a few selected rooms and £150 if you would like tea included. I should say so. They have to be joking. I just hope Balmoral is now insured because Windsor wasn't.

Retro, are those the real prices?

Naomi, those are the prices given in today's Times.

I took those prices from the Daily Mail

Is that a group/family ticket or an annual ticket?  It surely can't be for an individual one visit ticket ... can it?

I'll get the link.

Two adults and up to three children - £38.

Oh, that's only the grounds and exhibitions.

Castle Interior Tour£100.00

Castle Interior Tour with Afternoon Tea£150.00

I sincerely hope they don't buy a lot of fresh cake in.  They'll be throwing it in the dustbin!

Who cares, whole ruddy lot can go as far as I am concerned and that includes the inhabitants.

They could give uneaten cucumber and cress sandwiches and cream scones to the local food bank.

I think the current batch of Royals are less fond of grand palaces, and more likely to opt for the smaller, cosier, residences.  Being in prime hunting, shooting, fishing territory the scope to link Balmoral with other similar estates, creating a very upmarket hotel or similar may be very very tempting.   They may start by opening it to the public and commercializing in terms of tea rooms, gift shops, events, as they do with Sandringham (actually very little is open to the public) but I wonder if in line with their plans for a slimmed down monarchy a slimmed down property portfolio would make sense.

20.04 on 2/4--Barsel, I was just flicking through the posts and saw your question. I don't know who owns it now.
