It's being reported as if Nike just came up with this and foisted it on the England team as a surprise.

Surely this would have been signed off by the football authorities well in advance. Why aren't they being asked about it?

If there is an issue I've not come across it yet. Something to do with collars then ?

Had to sesrch for it. So they left the cross of St. George off then, and substituted some logo. Well a simple compromise is to get a pair of scissors and cut it out before taking to the pitch. Sorted !

Surely the real crime is the endlessly changing kits these days: most if not all clubs have three if you please. All at a price: youo pay to adverise the sponsor's logo.

I agree with tomus: I am a big fan of the cross of St George but this isn't the "fault" solely of Nike.

" All at a price: youo pay to adverise the sponsor's logo."

Only if you're daft enough to do so.

I totally agree with Naomi

Personally, I've always found it daft that grown men go to a football match wearing their team's shirt. It's OK for kids, but why would adults do it?

I've been a Saracens season ticket holder for longer than I can remember, and I don't, and never had, had anything with a Saracens logo.

Simple solution, don't buy the shirt, there will be

another along shortly.

Surely it's not the England flag anyway. The George cross is like this 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. So it's some non descript multicoloured cross in the same shape.

RedHelen "2012 olympics the flags colour was changed " - I cannot find that. All the union flags in the old videos etc are standard, if occasionally upside down.

I suspect it's the strip that RH was referring to:

oh, right that's not the flag, it's a shirt design. Strange that anyone would conflate that.

...I believe it was Stella McCartney's design.

As long as the three lions lie there with the bees buzzing about them all will be fine.

very sweet!

The new and exciting change was signed off, on behalf of the FA, by the outgoing commercial director Mr Navin Singh. The clue is in the name. He would not be given the chance to tamper with the flag of India would he.

A big fuss about nothing. Two big news stories yesterday which more or less buried the England shirt/flag saga

It is the worst make over i have seen, you can hardly see it against the background, and it changes the symbolic cross of St George.
