My son has been off work for a few weeks as 2 close friends have recently died one after the other.

He's  devastated and feels he can't work at the moment as one of them worked with him.

His firm will only pay SSP but this is nowhere near enough as he has 3 children and a mortgage to pay.

He feels he will have to go back as he cant manage otherwise but im worried for his mental health.

Is there anything else he can claim? We, as a family, have always worked so are not really up on the benefit system.

Any help appreciated, im so worried.

Would his wife be able to work until he is recovered? Is that a realistic option?

Thanks everyone, yes he has sick notes from GP who is also arranging counselling so hopefully he will be back to work soon.  He's worked there for 20 years without any sickness so they know he's not 'swinging the lead'

I hope he gets the support he needs and starts feeling better soon, Darcey

Does he belong to a union ?

Does he have mortgage protection insurance he could claim on?

well this sort of thing has t be arranged pre-

a claim.... I had income protection wh wasnt that expensive per month because under our contract of emloyment we got paid for the first six months anyway

Thanks to those who gave help and support.

He's decided to go back as the stress of not being able to support his family is just as bad.

Darcey, I think that is probably for the best, hope so anyway.
