Hi my partner and i often think about emigrating to Australia, but my partner and my children aged 6 and 7 are all petrified of spiders. I have heard so much about all the spiders there. Is there any areas of Australia where there are rare to see and they would feel safe? How much of a problem is it? I often think it cannot be that bad if you watch home and away and neighbours they are all sat on the grass any information gratefully received

I emigrated to Australia from the UK, and trust me you have nothing to worry about regarding spiders. There are spiders in Australia but few are considered dangerous. You will see as many spiders in the UK as you would in Australia. Just use your common sense and awareness. My philosphy is that if I see a spider and don't know whether it's dangerous or not, then I just avoid it - by the sounds of it, this is your natural instinct anyway!
I see you are thinking about emigrating to Aussie. Have you visited a web site called pomsdownunder.com, the author emigrated to aussie in 2000 and has written a book about how to go about emigrating, he has a section on what creatures you can find and what areas of aussie they can be found. Visit the site and maybe email the author, he might be able to help. The site again is

I hope this helps.
