Changing Hotmail Password

This is a follow up to a recent query,  (thanks Buenchico!) - my hotmail account has apparently been hacked into and an email supposedly from me has been sent which eventually asks for money.   I want to change my hotmail password, but it is not easy.   I cant change it via the normal channels via my Microsoft account, it accepted the change to my security info but I have to wait 30 days apparently before I can change the password.  Is this really so?  Is there another way?

Any advice please.

Microsoft have been horrendous - wouldn't let me change my password or my phone number and so for days it was asking me to "verify" - so I had to get a computer repair guy in who took me right out of "outlook" and hotmail and put me with gmail.  I lost everything as in photos, messages and letters and whatever else but it was worth it to get away from Microsoft.

Thanks for your  help.  I was luckier than you and I didnt in the end need to change from Outlook,  and my hotmail account appears to be back to normal, and I have managed to change my password.    Presumably my password was hacked, you have to be so suspicious.
