Google seems to suggest that the normal Ctrl+C (for 'Copy' on highlighted text) and Ctrl+V (for 'Paste', at the location of your cursor) should work.

It's the highlighting of the text that I cannot do . It will only highlight one word at a time or every thing . I don't seem to be able to be selective.

How are you tring to highlight the text?  It's always easiest to use a mouse.  (The first thing that I do with any type of laptop is to ad a mouse to it).

Otherwise, position the cursor at one end of the text, press down on the touchpad with a finger from one hand and then drag the cursor across with a finger from your other hand.

Thanks I will try that the next time I turn the lappy on.

I've had that happen occasionally - it seems to be when the underlying "text" is actually an entity or block in its own right (e.g. a table) on the original.
