I now have ?O?E?T for 5a, which I had supposed, and still can't see the solution. FOREST? Please make me kick myself again.

I've also just noticed that I queried my own solution to 22a Irritable character a mole put up with (5). Initiallly I considered RASPY as it contained SPY but 24a gave R?T?Y so RATTY but how does it parse?
