While deriving the meaning of step-cousin logically, one must think about at least one or more of the following possibilities to get the correct answer :

1) It is possible for one's step-parent to have nephews or nieces.

2) It is possible for one's uncle or aunt to have step-children.

3) It is also possible for one to have a step-uncle or step-aunt.

While deriving the meaning of step-cousin logically, if one does not think about any of the above possibilities, will he or she derive a wrong meaning of step-cousin and start thinking that if a person's uncle or aunt has biological children from his or her second marriage, then those children become the step cousins of that person?

Even my mother made this silly mistake one day in last month.

Sorry - I lost the plot reading and trying to understand that lot!
There has never been an occasion in my life where I have needed - or had any interest in - deriving the meaning of step-cousin.I expect the same is true for many people.

PS And I don't think of it as 'Science'.
All that matters is that a step cousin is in no way a blood relative. No shared genes. If your biological parent divorces your step-parent you no longer have a step cousin.
Something that comes to mind when these type of questions arise, perhaps it will help.
