We’ve tried loads of products to get rid of scum that persists in the pipe work of our washing machine but to no avail. We add a Calgon tablet on every wash on have used proprietary products but nothing changes. Sometimes the scum transfers to the clothes in the drum and they turn out soiled. Any tips anyone.

How old is the machine?
Do you often wash at 60 degrees and above?
Do you use biological powder?
Wipe the rubber seal by hand and remove the scummy stuff.
Then put washing soda in the drum and do a hot wash without any clothes in.

The machine is four years old. Hot washes with various cleaning agents are no use. Most day to day washes are 30 ot 40 degrees as specified by the clothing manufacturers. The rubber seal has been renewed and wiped regularly.
I don't know what to suggest, my machine is at least 15 years old and still has the original seal, which looks like new.
I do a lot of laundry at 60 or 70 degrees. I did try the pods but often found a slimy residue in the laundry and the seals so went back to powder.
I live in a hard water area but have never used Calgon or similar.

What exactly do you mean by 'pipework'? I did have a horrible build up of what I presume was mould a few years ago in the drawer cavity - this was when I using the all in one pods.
Ever since, I remove the drawer after I finished with the machine for the day, wipe out the cavity and the drawer and leave it out until I need to use it again. I leave the door open too.

We use Fairy non bio. The dispenser does get black residue but if I take it out and stick my finger into the tube that takes the water downwards from the dispenser area it’s covered in gunge.
That's exactly what I had.
I used spray bleach kitchen cleaner and scrubbed it out using a bottle brush, sponge and cloths.
Then I use bio powder on a 90 degree cycle, and wiped it down again.
Leaving the drawer out between use, wiping the cavity with kitchen towel after every use and leaving the door open has stopped it coming back.
I haven't tried this myself, but I did read this a few days ago.
Put 50g baking soda in the drum and 50 ml of white vinegar in the dispenser drawer. Run on any wash cycle.
If you try it and it works, perhaps you could let us know?
