Plagued With Old Email Address

I changed my email address well over a year ago, yet the od one still haunts me.
eg., if I click on the envelope symbol below a newspaper article in order to send it to a friend, an email form is displayed prefilled with my old address which cannot be changed or removed.
I have just tried to register with a company that I've never had any contact with before and when I clicked on the link to get in touch with them, up came the usual form including my old email address. How can I rid myself of this or does it remain for the full 2 years until my old account become totally dormant?
