About an hour ago we were in the front garden and happened to see water running out of the pavement (tarmac) and into a nearby grate. I went online and reported the leak to Thames Water. They're out there now looking at it.

I suppose so, they switched off our whole street earlier in the year, to fix a slow leak. They're required to give residents 48 hours' notice but unfortunately "forgot".
Are they all now leaning against their spades , looking into the hole ?
but will they fix it?
they've probably just found they aren't pumping enough sewage into it, DTC

The man who came out was just assessing it ie, sussing out exactly where it is, how serious etc and now he's gone away and I expect a gang will appear sometime soon to do the repair. I was intrigued to see him using divining rods to sort out exactly where the leak comes from. I knew someone back in my working days who had tried divining and said it worked, so I had some faith in it. This engineer said he uses it all the time and it's amazingly accurate.
You're kidding of course
Of course you are - what a silly question
If we're talking about speedy service: I rang British Gas this morning about a problem with my boiler. At 2.00 p.m. a pleasant lady arrived and fixed the problem. I was suitably impressed!
No, Bazile...no joke. Thames and SevernTrent still use them.
I had a leak near my house. The online and telephone leak service was good, and the informationthey given was useful.
