Need More Onedrive Storage

I subscribe to Microsoft 365.
They are advising me that they are about to delete my OneDrive as I'm 260 GB over my 5 GB allowance. I can't / don't wish to afford what they are asking for increased storage. I can't even get to remove any of the unnecessary volume. To add insult to injury they also say I won't be able to send or receive emails.

Firstly, are you sure that the message you've received is actually from Microsoft? It could easily be a scammer that's trying to get hold of your credit card details. (Indeed, the threat of locking up your email account sounds absolutely like a scammer's ploy to me).

The 5 GB storage limit only applies to what you automatically get for free with a Microsoft account. If you subscribe to Microsoft 365 Basic, your limit is twenty times bigger, at 100 GB. If you subscribe to Microsoft 365 Personal, the limit is 1 TB. So, if you've received an email about a 5 GB limit, I strongly suspect that it's a scam!
What sort of storage doesn't allow you to copy & delete from it ?

Maybe keep/back-up copies of your data locally from here on, just in case.
Scam suspected
do you need it all on onedrive?
could some of it be put on an external drive?
you can get a 1 TB drive for about £40
google drive give you free 15 gb

& mega gives you free 20

you'd just have to move stuff around more
260gb over your allowed 5gb

"to add insult to injury"

are you joking?
You're massively abusing their service I'm amazed they allowed you to over use it by that much.

Look up all the free allowances that companies give & move your stuff to them, put the rest on a drive

When you say you can’t get to your files, in what are they blocked?
It could be genuine those are the parameters without a paid subscription. Although here is an additional allowance for Outlook.

As suggested you can move files around to other free storage , delete old email or save attachments elsewhere.

To sum up: I pay £59.99 to Microsoft each December for Microsoft 365 Personal. This allows me the use of up to 5 devices and 1TB of cloud storage. I don't understand why I being threatened to have my Onedrive deleted.
I'm trying to get to speak to someone at MS but its really hard. Does any member know how to communicate with them?
just review what you are storing. You should only have your personal files on OD. Make sure you are not storing the OS files on your computer etc. I can't imagine that most people would need any more than 5gb.
can you confirm that you mean 260mb over not 260gb over.
Your opening post states your allowance is 5GB, now you say it is 1TB.
Could you inadvertently have two different accounts?

Here is part of MS message:
Your [email protected] personal account is currently frozen because you are 260 GB over your storage limit of 5 GB. Your files are still there. However, your OneDrive will be deleted on or after 23/02/2023 unless you upgrade your account or remove files you don’t need.
I don't understand it.
Have you reviewed your files? why do you use so much? My guess is that you are storing every file on your computer, you don't need to do that.
//google drive give you free 15 gb//

It is NOT free, read the terms and conditions.

As for the OP, it all seems a bit confused. Have you burned up your 1TB as that is a fait bit of data. We have MS365 family, so 6 accounts its about £20 more than a single so there is one way to get more storage.

Personally I would review what you are putting on there first.
If you need more Onedrive storage, there are a couple of options available to you. The best way is to sign up for Microsoft 365 which comes with 1TB of Onedrive cloud storage! You'll benefit from the latest security features, access to the Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), and a host of other collaboration tools. With this package, your files will be securely backed up in the cloud and available across all your devices. It's also ideal if you use multiple computers or share documents with others for work or home projects. Plus, it offers ongoing software updates so that you're always on top of new features as they become available.

In addition to using OneDrive, it's recommended to use a third-party backup solution, like NAKIVO backup solution for Microsoft 365
, to ensure redundancy and protect against data loss. By backing up your data to an external hard drive or a cloud backup service, you can have an extra layer of protection against accidental deletion, hardware failure, or cyber attacks.
Is that copied from jsuggs pos?
