Butler Sink Plug Hole

I replaced the butler sink plug hole and trap because it was old and leaking from the seal but i added the new plug hole and trap and it is still leaking for my kitchen sink there is a foamy rubber washer that the plug hole sits in so it doesnt leak but this isnt on the butler sink and didnt come with the plug hole so what should i do should i try find one of these that will fit or do i need some plumbers putty or does it need silicone around the plug hole thank you

The foamy washer is all you need for a steel sink, but a ceramic sink often needs more.

When these sinks were commonplace, old-school plumbers would bed the waste (plughole) in "paint & putty". A slap of oil paint followed by a bed of ordinary putty.
Always worked a treat. Nowadays it's just a bead of silicone.

Thanks for the advice so as you can imagine the plug hole is not flush with the ceramic hole and there is almost a step i have scraped it all out and cleaned it up would a good kitchen bathroom silicone do the trick?
Yes, that would be fine.
One thing though................. leave the silicone to go off fully before running any water.
I usually let it go overnight to be sure.
