Rishi Sunak could be forced out of power within six months ,as fuming Tories cancel membership. Whilst some grass root Tories felt delighted with Sunak ,others were rattled that Tory menbers were not able to vote for who they wanted in no 10 this time. (So were the British Public no doubt) Even Johnson supporters are now calling for a general election After they think Sunak knifed their hero in the back. Bet these Tories have very sore feet these days.

Stableford; Do you really believe that stupidity (i.e. special needs) is a proper ground for silencing people? If you find some people stupid (as I do) then I suppose you could report them for it, but you surely shouldn't complain if your report is not acted upon as you would wish.
Of course not, Atheist. It's more the repetition of the ignorance and stupidity, rather than the fact itself. But only my opinion, in any case. As others have said, the Site Rules give pretty straightforward advice.
Gulliver, there’s no one better qualified to handle money wisely than a man who has money.
Trump up to his eyeballs in debt?
Don’t be ridiculous.
:0) ^^^ love that one!!

"Gulliver, there’s no one better qualified to handle money wisely than a man who has money."

I've always found that those whose job is handling money somehow always end up with a good share sticking to their fingers. Do you know anyone in their business where that doesn't apply?

Naomi;
Fiction is full of people who are born into money and then squander the family fortune. They weren't in the job of handling money, they were just those who happened to have money.
If money is handled wisely it makes money - that’s why people who squander it are skint. Without people who understand money there would be no businesses, no jobs, no pensions and no welfare state. Don’t knock it.

oh pish tush

The King does NOT choose the prime-minister

This came up in 1962 when MacM said to her late majesty, "and your next prime minister is ....... ". and she said do I have to?
and the Officers of the Crown ( lord Loo-lee, Att-gen, Ld Chanc, Sol-gen) said "oh yea your holy majesty show ting"

and so she sent her private solicitors to Cambridge, Sir Ivor jennings of trinity hall for private advice....

and he rolled froo George V wanted Lord Curzon in 1936 and was advised the time was past for a PM in the Lords....
and said
well - If you chose some who was not commanding a majority in the House of Commons then there is a defeat on the Queen's Speech ( wh has happened apparently). so you are really limited to the one who has the commons majority. so - - - - yes

in which I say this is clearly not new

Naomi; A man who has a big win on the lottery has money, but it doesn't mean that he's "qualified to handle money wisely".
Be realistic, aetheist, there's a huge difference between someone who handles money/investments on a day-to-day basis and someone who has just landed 10 mill/100 mill/or whatever.... Reminds me, I need to check my lottery numbers...
I didn’t suggest that. He’s not clever or astute - he’s lucky.
end ay also cover the idea of voting for a prime minister and not a party

1970 Harold Wilson - man of straw and innovator of anything that will do him good
tried to be presidential - and flew around ( to the admiration of the marxists at the Beeb of course) the country to all the constituencies and gave great presidential speeches

and did not ( I think he must be briefed the adoring Beeb) name Edward Heath, but referred to him as Selsdon Man.
He lost (1970)

(Harold Wilson’s reputation has long been defined by the contrast between the dynamic leadership he promised in the 1964 election and the opportunistic figure which he increasingly cut in office)

DTC, do you ever get the feeling that you shouldn’t need to explain something like that? Hard work sometimes isn’t it.
Well you seem to think so, every day.^
oh er alright
have we got around to clarifying a clarification yet?

I only ask to learn from the wise old heads on AB - that are left of course

naomi24Gulliver, there’s no one better qualified to handle money wisely than a man who has money.

I have been assured by um a LibDem agent ( west country, an irradicable minority hangs on there) that it is to do with subs
I didn’t suggest that. He’s not clever or astute - he’s lucky.

Just to er leaven the discussion, Cheney VP to Bush was a rich building contractor ( so artta be able to run the Great American Republic) and supported and orchestrated the flattening of Iraq ( first or second war).
and then his firm Halliburton made much much moolah rebuillding it ( paid for by sequestered oil supplies)
and Cheney became a v v rich bilding contractor
( and everyone clapped and hurra-ed)
