display settings problem

When my computer came out of safe mode the display settings were different. 'Colours' was set to 16 colours and 'screen area' was set to 640 by 480 pixels. I can't change them back to the previous settings. When I try I have to restart the computer and it makes no difference. The settings haven't been changed. Is something wrong with the computer (e.g a virus) or can I fix it by changing some settings? How can I fix the problem?

16 colors, how depressing, i got 16 million! - and you can too, stoogmeister, if you on W9x, currently you are in a generic safe display, you need the display adapter driver installing;GO to control panel, click display, click settings, click Advanced, click Adapter, click Change, click next, click next, insert your system board cdrom... if you got that cdrom, follow insructions from there, if not you may be able to download a driver off the web.. you should supply more details, like what version of Windows your running, if you're a pc100 system etc. well, hope you get successful first time chuck :-)
sounds like you need some new drivers for your graphics card, do you know the model number?
