Hi,

Anyone who lives in Preston, im looking for a romantic restaurant to take my fiance for our anniversary. Somewhere posh would be nice, as we dont go out that often and I want to make it special. We've not lived here long, so dont yet know the area so if anyone has any ideas, that would be great. We dont have a car, so it would have to be in Preston, or not too far.

Thanks

Heathcote's on Winckley Square is nice, traditional food with a twist. For Chinese try Great Times on Lancaster Road at the top of the market. If you'd let me know whereabouts in Preston you're currently living and the type of food you like I could make a specific recommendation

Thanks

we've been to great times and enjoyed it but was thinking of something else. Traditional english or italian would be good. We dont like indian or thai. Mexican would be good too. Im living on blackpool road, near where it crosses plungington so not that far from town really.

What type of food is heathcotes? and would you recommend it for a romantic meal?

Thanks

Well, Heathcote's is now called the Olive Press and is certainly "romantic" by which I mean candlelit in the evenings with attentive but not intrusive service. The food is English but with French and Italian influence, and I'd certainly recommend the fish and the steaks are always top notch. There are several decent Italians, from Pizza Express (national chain I know but good pizza nonetheless) to Angelo's on Butler Street (near the Station). There's also a Tapas restaurant next door but one to Pizza Express but I've only visited very briefly. There is a restaurant called Franco's on the way between Preston and Longridge that's your typical Italian restaurant (tres romantic) and also Quattro's out towards Samlesbury but they may be a bit of a walk. The Italian Orchard at Broughton would probably be a good bet for the taxi journey but I haven't been there for a couple of years so wouldn't like to speak as to the quality. I've also heard good things about the restaurant at Preston Marriott on the A6 but I've never been there except for coffee-and-biscuits meetings. Having said all that I always entertain business contacts at either Brucciani's on Fishergate (for informal lunches) or Paul Heathcote's places (he has restaurants in Preston and Longridge) and I've never had any complaints.

Enjoy.

Burlingtons at Broughton is very nice (and romantic) you could get the bus (I think it's the 40 to Garstang and the 44 to Goosnargh) and a taxi home (not very romantic getting the bus I know!), or down Whittingham Lane at Broughton is the Italian Orchard.

Hi,

Thanks for that answer, certainly givers me a good idea. I have heard today about a place call Guys Thatched Hamlet in Bilsborrow which has a place we can stay after which sounds good, have you heard onything about it, or been there at all?

bekib86 - Guy's is famous for having rooms with spa baths and is in a lovely setting.

as for restaurants, Tria at Miller arcade does beautiful tapas and is reasonably priced.

The Mexican chain Chiquito, on the docks is also good but not particularly romantic!

I tried for guys but they are booked up for months in advance they said. Bit disappointed but ill know for next time.

Ive been hearing a lot around about the Italian Orchard recently so does anyone have anything to report about that? hopefully it is a nice setting, so we can have a romantic night. I have a car now so no need to worry about travelling, so does anyone know the address so i can get there with my map?

The Green Man at Inglewhite just outside Preston is a great place for a romantic meal at any time of the year. We went on Valentines Day 2021 and had vegan garlic infused mushrooms, a moist steak and home made cherry cheesecake. There was even a real red rose on the table! Great food and friendly service.
