Unsure what the strategy is behind that ?
His strategy is, I imagine, to force the UK government to do something about a part of the UK being treated as an EU vassal state. In that case all power to his elbow. It's unlikely to succeed but I don't blame Mr Givan. It must be a bit disappointing to see your province sacrificed so that it is effectively no longer part of the UK's single market just to maintain the integrity of the EU's single market.

As an aside, it won't do too much harm if the NI assembly collapses again. It did not function for three years from January 2017 and, as far as I know, life went on.

My issue with it would be that budgets and legislation will halt.

Contrary to popular belief the NI assembly actually does do stuff.
The last hiatus did tremendous harm to the province.
My guess is he'll either not resign, but will resign, and then unresign next week or something.
As the report points out, there no longer has to be an election immediately when the First Minister resigns, a rule which, conveniently enough, just happens to be changing now ...
