i was moving a load of files onto a different drive, & it was fien for a while, then it froze and the
rest of the laptop went weird, then i noticed there were no icons in my desktop.
i tuned it all off & on again & the icons were still gone, but there were normal folders there & theyre gone too
i thought it might just be the icons so i tried to move something to the deasktop, & it wouldnt let me.

it kept bringing up the name of the external hard drive & saying it wasnt connected - so i connected it - & all my stuff reappeared!

i did it a couple of times & they disappeared again.

im currently moving my personal stuff from it, but how has this happened & how can i put it back where its supposed to be?

ive found the missing stuff on the hard drive - but it wont let me move it to the PC, or the desktop - because source & desination folders are the same!
so where to i put it?
i dont want to move it & make it worse!

thanks :)

i did a system restore & it didnt help, there are no more points
you've moved desk top folder, just put it back to the top level on the C drive.
sorry I mean the top level fror the C: drive for the user concerned
eg c:/users/username

thanks, i tried that but it didnt work.
it seemed to have moved, but it all disappeared again when i unplugged the drive.
i restarted & an error msg straightway said
"F:\Desktop is unavailable. if loc is on this PC make sure the device is connected. if the loc still cant be found it might have been moved or deleted."

whenever i tried to put the stuff back this error msg comes up, it wont let me do anything to the desktop
(except recycle bin)

when i click on the Desktop icon in the PC menu, it just brings that error msg up again.
but now when i plug the drive back in it & click on the Desktop icon in the PC desktop it still brings that msg up - and the icons etc dont return to the actual desktop.

how can i turn this drive back to being on C drive?

thanks

now also when i plug the drive in again
