Joking apart, this report makes interesting reading, with its differing figures for various countries, and its "scientific" and "social" theories as to why we're the Fatties of Western Europe. But it is also rather alarming IMHO (e.g. "It’s estimated the NHS spent £6.1 billion on overweight- and obesity-related ill-health in 2014/2015). It ends on a more optimistic note covering what we can (and will?) do about it, but I won't hold my breath.

I think you'll find brexit trimmed the fat off the UK. They're are still lumbered with their silly rules primarily designed to favour inefficient French farmers for example. We are the ones who can now flout reg 2297/94 with impunity. Still don't let the facts stand in the way of another anti British post canary.
I agree with Mamya, this would have been more appropriate in Society and Culture, or Food.
And I'm not sure brexit has any thing to do with the average British citizens relationship with food.

You only have to walk down pretty-much any street to see how fat we've become as a nation, and I would say the best test to see if you're fat is to look in the mirror - scales also help; but I do wish they'd stop using BMI as a measure as it only takes account of height and weight and ignores body composition.
Ben Youngs, is fairly squat for his weight at 5'.8" and 92kg - that gives him a BMI of 30, so he's official obese.

I'm, too, am not overly sure how Brexit enters into this.
Lots of Brits are fat quite simply because they gorge loads of processed rubbish containing excessive amounts of fat, salt and sugar. They do so not because they cannot afford to eat healthily (which everybody can) but because they cannot be bothered to.
Most unfortunately I have a McDonalds "restaurant" near me. It is a drive-thru (sic). The people who drive through it are predominantly overweight and they emerge with their purchases, ramming whatever it McDonalds sells down their face with one hand whilst steering with the other. The place sees a constant stream of couriers delivering the stuff to those who cannot even be bothered to fetch it themselves.
A household near me (couple plus three children) virtually lives on delivered food from various outlets. Barely a day passes without carrier bags full of the stuff being brought to the front door. All of the occupants are overweight, including their youngest child who can be no more than 8 or 9 years old.
People who feed themselves in this way simply cannot be bothered to feed themselves and their children properly. The article is quite right - many people in the UK see eating as simply a nuisance, to be endured with as little fuss or effort as possible, usually whilst they are doing something else of far greater importance. Until that changes (which is unlikely as the opportunities to eat conveniently seem to be increasing daily) there will always be large numbers of overweight people here.

Me too, Tora. There's nothing I enjoy more than a chicken curry washed down with a couple of bottles of Cobra. But I never have a curry takeaway (or any other takeaway for that matter). I believe that decent food doesn't travel well and should not be carted on the back of a scooter. But more than that, eating restaurant food is more about the occasion than the food itself. Mrs NJ and I are perfectly capable of knocking up a decent, nutritious dinner. But going out is a treat that is more than the meal. That cannot be replicated with lukewarm, unhealthy pap delivered in a polystyrene box.
