"Not it isn't. Conservatives have broadly stuck to the 'If we're (Generally captains of industry and other influencers) doing well, so are you' policy. NooLabour was a complete volte-face from their 'working man' principles."

I am afraid it is.
We have a two-party system, and the main virtue of one party has generally always been that it is not "that lot in power" :-)
The conservatives have always reinvented themselves more successfully than Labour - maybe Disraeli was the most dramatic example, but in my lifetime the Thatcher revolution was another and arguably under Boris Johnson and the brexiteers the party has changed again. Of course fundamentally one party is usually to the right of the other

:-)
ZM: "Proper Labour died when Maggie crushed them and their Unions. NooLabour was just a slightly more left wing Tory party. " - bang on Zacs, diddly, that's the BA right there. I don't count Blair because he's not remotely real labour, he converted them to Tories.
ich: "Ah but what is "proper" Conservative?
It seems a bit unfair to claim that there is only one true Labour party while blithely accepting all the reinventions of the Tory party.
That surely is the job of the old-style leftists. " - err no The Tories vary but are broadly consistent in their principles. Those who are considered slightly less Tory are called "wets" and Heath was the last "wet" PM. Blair's Noo Labour however slaughtered their own sacred cows to attain power. Don't get me wrong Blair was correct, the public will never trust real Labour again, he grasped that and moved the party away. Sadly Agent Cob and his merry band of anti semites have comprehensively un done that.
oh and of course I forgot, Blair was a great fan of TGL and invited her to no 10 for a one to one as soon as he got through the door. Note also that he chose not to undo what TGL had done even though he could have. So Blair? Labour? naaaa!
Insightful stuff :-)

Meanwhile, we are all forgetting poor old BJ, the subject of the question ...
Wish Blair was PM right Now, instead of This Bullingdon Club Brat.
How would Blair have any effect on someone living outside the UK, as you claim to do?
