There is a scottish song Wee **** Sparra.Could the answer be Sparrow?
A previous answer was WEEBILL, one of the smallest birds in Australia? When I first saw this clue, I thought that it had been censored by AB!
Crofter it was censored by AB. I put Wee (rhymes with rock) in all innocence as the name for a male bird but it was censored same as chelle017 in her question.
Pie, as in magpie. At least that's the answer if this refers to a clue in The Times crossword recently, referring to a film that made you cry...ie a weepie.
Oops! I've only just noticed there are four asterisks in the question. If they represent letters, then my response abopve is nonsense. Sorry.
Tell you what...forget I ever appeared here, eh? I didn't even notice the answer was a bird! Head's gone completely. My apologies.

It beggars belief when it takes SIX censored postings to get the clue across. As I understand the question, the answer may well be "sparrow" - as suggested by patsyann and for the reason she gives, that is the old song "Wee C**k Sparrow"

The problem is that the Clue is being sent out is of the form "Wee ****" and it's confusing everyone! Even Quizmonster is getting confused!

come on qm, get a grip man!
Sorry, TCL. I, of all people, should have been happy with the wee c-sparrow instead of "chirpin' awa'" like a plonker!
weecock sparra ! is a scottish poem recited by Andy Stuart among many other scottish comics.
