Only when I sit on the sofa so my body is slightly bent! At the back and bottom inside my left ribs. Also I was told years ago that I have a floating rib on that side, at the front, which is where this discomfort started. It seems to be creeping round the back ... Don't know if it's connected or a different problem. What could it be? Doesn't hurt any other time, no temperature, don't feel ill. Thanks all.

A musculo-skeletal problem most likely....a bit of wear and tear....the ageing process...rheumatism....call it what you will.

Almost certainly nothing to do with your "floating" rib.
Try ibuprofen cream or voltarol cream.

Nothing sinister comes to mind.
I had a similar ache/pain. Started when I turned in bed and lasted about three weeks. Gone now, and for me it just joined the long list. Hope yours clears up soon.
I had chest pain for several days. As per NHS website I went to A&E. Extensive tests found a small blood clot which wasn't the cause of the pain - had some meds to help break that up. The pain went away after a couple more weeks - think it was a muscle strain due to lifting a case of beer in the supermarket!
