" You f****** black c***". I'm just asking, as I wondered which of those three words is offensive. I saw it reported in a newspaper t'other day, as shown, and wondered why they had only censored two of the words.

Yes does feel like a troll. Some of the answers feel like a wind up too :-)
I'm not entirely sure the OP has the wherewithal to be a troll. Some of their other posts would suggest they really do think this way.
"Whether the equalities act is a valid piece of legislation is a whooooole different subject."

Quite.

If ever there was a misnamed Act, this has to be it.
Indeed. In the scenario you described previously, the person on behalf of whom you were offended would have to be at least contacted to see whether they concurred with your view.
"He's clearly trolling."

No.. No i don't think he is.

Maybe we could hold the troll card for when people are actually trolling? It's over used and those who use it, often show a lack of understanding for what the word means.

I'd be interested how you'd react to an actual troll.. Probally not very well.
I dont like joining in with the usual muckers ( er dialect oop t norf by the way)
words are taboo - some are and some arent - as we well know from zillions of threads on naughty words on AB

black is used by minorities ( inc Br Afro caribbean - which I always find a mouthful) - as in
I saw a black lad with a knife
- - - - -- - - - -( actually - - - sorra black lad wivva shiv innit ) but what the hell
and people say - so what, what is abnormal about that ? ter daah!

I mean: they DON'T say - "you cant say black, or naomi will object !"
They WOULD object to hear the other words.

[hey did you read - americans ( sozza 'muricans ) are complaining that Pres Trump's languagae is not suitable for under tens?]

I try not to shock it is hard enough getting people to understand what I am saying.....

Zacs - I don't find them offensive but I've never experienced racism. I would never stand in judgement of how other people feel.

The words are offensive (to some) and that was the intention so how can anyone moan about them being offensive or who is offended?

Is that clearer?
"[hey did you read - americans ( sozza 'muricans ) are complaining that Pres Trump's languagae is not suitable for under tens?]"

Only because when children use Trumpesquities they give the impression of being of kindergarten age, skewing educational achievement data.
//I'd be interested how you'd react to an actual troll.. Probally not very well.//

I'm a movie geek Spath, I've dealt with many a troll. My usual reaction is to verbally insult them then ignore the thread.

Perhaps troll was the wrong word to describe this thread, but I felt it was aimedat causing a row. The whole idea of comparing the word "black" to the edited words is ridiculous. The average person of colour (I think that's the correct right on terminology) refer to themselves as black. There are many worse names they could've been called, but the whole idea of swearing at someone, while referencing their race is wholly racist and unwanted. The paper edited the phrase correctly.
Ummmm, sort of. By saying they are offensive to others, people are standing in judgement of how other people feel.
"but I felt it was aimedat causing a row."

Don't worry, Abers have pretty decent skills at not taking it too personally but also at making the situation worse. :D
They aren't if they know they are offensive. If someone isn't offended so be it, if they are, it's perfectly understandable why.
Zacs, are you saying as a white man myself, I'm not allowed to hear "you *** black ***" and not be offended on behalf of the black person (can only assume they're black) that's being called a *** black ***?
//Abers have pretty decent skills at not taking it too personally but also at making the situation worse//

True dat.

How times change. Have any of you ever worked with black people? I don't just mean one or two black people. I mean a workplace where over half of the employees were black in a company that employed over 3000 people. Ever been to their weddings and social gatherings? I have. Caribbean/African/Asian. All of life was there! I play golf regularly with some Caribbean and Asian friends who think it's ok to say some outrageous things to each other, but if I said the same things to them I would be probably be reported for racial abuse. I had to laugh at the reference to me being a troll, whatever one of them is. For a start I don't do social media of an description; Bookface; Timeface; Chatsnap etc. If you knew my full name and Googled it, you would probably only find things related to golf and HMS Glorious. And I only use this site for short periods. The reason for posting the OP was that having experienced/still experiencing, all of the above, I think lots of things today are greatly exaggerated by over-emotional, self-promoted martyrs.
Thanks for all the replies.
I'm sure some immigrant was prosecuted for a hate crime when he called a traffic warden 'English'.
Can't see how that's offensive unless the warden was Scottish. (how is a poor immigrant supposed to know how childish Jocks are, if that was the case)
I haven’t read all the posts but I question why the word ‘black’ should ever be deemed offensive. Personally, I think that attitude is an insult to black people – even though black people are often guilty of exacerbating the notion. Very wonky thinking in my opinion. There should be no shame in being black.
You cannot put yourself in the shoes of another human being and say what words are offensive to them. You can have an opinion on what words you THINK might be offensive and that’s all well and good (if a little snowflake-ish) but you cannot make judgements on their behalf.
