Read somewhere it was something to do with Irish bogtrotters, whoever they were.

Nothing on Wikipedia ?
Nothing to do with "Irish bog trotters", whatever they are.
The word Tory derives from the Middle Irish word tóraidhe; modern Irish tóraí; modern Scottish Gaelic Tòraidh: outlaw, robber or brigand, from the Irish word tóir, meaning "pursuit", since outlaws were "pursued men".
Looks the same thing to me.
Are you not aware that it is now regarded as extremely offensive to call Irish people "bog trotters"? It is akin to calling black African people "jungle bunnies" and reflects a similar level of intelligence and social awareness in the speaker.
It really depends whether you want the origins of the word alone or how it became politicised ck1 the latter is here.

Not in the slightest. Why should I ? Why should it be ? So you knew it was right but claimed otherwise anyway ? I think if anyone has a problem with their intelligence it's likely to be those making personal remarks to and about others on this site.
Always a good strategy to play the victim, when you are in the wrong.
Ah that's where you get it from. Should've realised.
I think you are making assumptions here, OG. Just FYI, I am not Irish.
Not at all. I don't see anywhere which it claims you are. Just noting your advice where you explain your earlier strategy.
Excellent question, thank you
I enjoyed our spat, OG but I think now we need to let someone answer the actual question before we bring wrath upon ourselves for causing diversion. Thanks for the fun.
