You can buy an ethernet card very cheaply to slot into the computer.

An example:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00016ZMXI/ 026-4040482-7298846?v=glance&n=560798&s=electr onics&v=glance

Or you can buy an ethernet to usb cable, but this will not be as effective.
Ethernet is usually RJ45, an RJ11 is a telephone type connector.
But anyway as Ethel says, a NIC (network interface card) is cheap and just plugs in to a spare PCI slot in the back of the computer.

Thanks for your help ,I find it impossible to get sensible advice in the computer stores in our area, they just want to sell you a new one with a three year warranty.
Thanks again
