All he had to do was wait until the dog was warm and dry and set off again.

My dog used to do that when he thought he had walked far enough and wanted to go home, but at nine stone I would not even have considered trying to lift the great oaf.

Absolutely agree with you canary (that's a first). At nine years old the walk was obviously too much for the little dog and why the stupid owner didn't realise this before he took the dog with him on such a trek, I don't know ! Hope he keeps to shorter walks for the little dog in future ..
