Are there any charities that you WONT support?
Talking with a work colleague today about various charities and the constant bombardment of tv adds, chuggers etc all trying to get our (financial) support etc.
We would all like to help out where we can but we cant support every charity that asks.
But, are there any charities that you WOULDNT give to?

Just curious as to why you wouldn't give?
Got a couple myself that I am loath to do so.

"Why do they use A list celebs to present these ads??"

Because we live in a society where we are fascinated by the lives of celebrities and, secretly, envy their money and fame and would love to live their lives vicariously.

Therefore, a certain percentage of us are so ignorant that we will do anything a celebrity tells us. If a celebrity tells us to donate money to a charity, massively more of us will do it compared to a faceless unrecognisable voice over.
We don't know how much money Ewan McGregor donates to charity.
'Water Aid' advert on TV showing poor young girl having to walk miles to collect dirty unsafe water for her family. This ad is followed by 'Marks & Spencer' total luxury food with high end mountain spring water, fresh from the Swiss Alps. No need to walk miles to the store, they can deliver. ... Bad timing for Advert schedule staff at ITV??
Do you not give viewers the credit to be able to distinguish between the two?

Would you rather Charities didn't get the prime time slots amongst the large retailers?

Do you run a business?
I understand Mamyalynne but at least on Comic Relief for example you actually see the celeb in the thick of it, in a famine based country mixing & helping these poor people. Not in a plush studio whilst speaking over a video shoot.
Sorry Mamyalynne what do you mean, do I run a business? ☺
I expect the celeb is far more valuable to a charity being the public face on tv rather than in the thick of it.
If you were an advertising executive for a Charity, surely you'd want your advertisement to air alongside the big players.
Charity is business.

Re - Ewan, for 15 years he has been an ambassador for UNICEF. Now even if that's only as a mouthpiece (he's done more than just talk) - he has raised more awareness than I ever could with my £1 quiz or a few coins in a tin.

Thank you for the link Mamyalynne, good info.
Your right, Charities are a business and they will do anything possible to keep that Charity going and after all they are the professionals in helping people, and will no the rights & wrongs in this business.
Thanks Mamyalynne ☺
I was not trying to shoot you down but you have to take the cold clinical view to get the best for your cause.
I didn't think you were shooting me down,
I genuinely valued your comments, thanks again ☺
