The recent thread on this has been removed, so here’s a new one without the advertising. I would particularly like derekpara to repeat his recollections of Arnhem if he would be so kind. I could have read much more. So very interesting.

Climbing to the top of Alter Peter in searing heat whilst dehydrated and being pushed and shoved by rude, screaming foreign children was not one of my best experiences. It's over an hour since I came down and my legs are still trembling.
I don't do 'holidays' I only go to places for a reason. Just back from Gdansk, but while I was there I happened on a free town-tour in English & learnt a lot of interesting stuff; the failed, but brave defence of the post-office by the postmen against the Nazis, Schopenhauer's birthplace & the residence of Mr Fahrenheit (of thermometer fame).

Best of all & found on my own, was Hans Memling's 13th cent. triptych "The Last Judgement" in the national museum (if you can find it).
