Watching a news clip about the borderless Irish border, and thinking what a joyful thing it is - an apparently unexpected consequence of the Good Friday Agreement, which (the lack of a border, that is) has gone a long way to dispel tensions in the six counties and beyond - even Orangemen are, from all accounts, against the 'hard' border being reinstated...

While it was there, oftimes manned by men with guns, it just underlined The Problem. Its absence suggests A Solution, and nearly everyone is happier.

Then tears, thinking about what you Brexiteeers are about to throw away, both in Ireland and in Europe. Borders help keep peoples separate; they heighten tensions. The lack of borders brings people together, in a calmer, inclusive way.

Talk about babies and bathwater - and all to show one grimey British finger to Johnny Foreigner.

Shame on you all.

"the mechanics of democracy did not allow for a smooth Brexit"

Would have had the House supported the result instead of trying to impede it.
"Do you honestly not remember anything about all the false statements of doom from the Remainers that did not materialise?"

I remember david being a pleb. I also remember thinking.. So if we vote remain, things will stay the same. If i vote leave, potential uncertainty.

No one in their right mind believed that fear mongering.

The speculation regarding trade and borders was justified and an important aspect.
'Would have had the House supported the result instead of trying to impede it.'

Difficult when 'the house' didn't know it had to consult parliament before triggering Article 50.
There were more than enough lies fed to us by the government and the Press in the 70s about joining the Common Market. Naively we went along with it and voted overwhelmingly to join. One of the main promises was that there would be no loss of Sovereignty ,no interference in our internal affairs. What a joke. We have had to succumb to the laws of the EU for over 40 years. Anyone thinking that they are being lied to at the present time regarding leaving the EU should take a look at the 70s when we were railroaded into joining.
Strictly speaking, we voted, not to join, but to remain in, having already been taken in by a PM who clearly thought the people didn't need consulting first when they had their betters controlling them all.
