The sort of thing I mean is a plastic clip-strip that slides onto the edge of and grips/holds together several sheets of paper whereby it forms the spine/binder of a document. Does anyone know where I can find one at least 40cm long, preferably black or white although navy or clear would do ?

Amazon has "slide binders" and "spine bars"....but not sure if they are long enough (though you could cut one and use one and a half per spine?)

There are lots of sources for bars shorter than 40cm - I need 40cm minimum.
Have you tried Staples? I don't know that they have them, but it's worth a look

roopower, will check them out next time I am anywhere within range. Thanks. Any other suggestions welcome.
You'll have a problem checking them out in a Staples store, as Staples closed all of their UK stores at the end of 2016. They were sold to Hilco, who then traded from former Staples locations under the Office Outlet name. However Office Outlet went into administration in March of this year, leading to store closures. (Staples UK still has an online presence but only stocks spine bars in the standard A4 size).

B&Q sell what you're looking for in 1m lengths:

Thanks, Chris - now, that's very useful info (including about Staples, I hadn't a clue. I have seen them abroad very recently though).
