What Gemstone can you recommend as far as Astrology is concerned if I was born year of the Dragon?

The Dragon pertains to Chinese astrology. Gemstones depend on which month you were born.

I hope my answer didn't seem too abrupt.
However, as far as I know, Garnet belongs to January, Amethyst to February, etc.
My birthday is in October and is therefore Opal.

Any one, they are all equally effective. Choose a pretty but inexpensive one so that it doesn't matter if you lose it.

jomifl is right, any crystal could be the right one for you. I sell crystals and gemstones and you would be amazed at how many people come and have a particular crystal in mind but when they see the ones you can get, they often change their minds and go away with another, its how it should be, go to a place that sells crystals and get the one that attracts you to it, that's the one for you
