It's called 'Thus Spake Zarathustra' and is by Friedrich Nietzsche
The book Thus Spoke Zarathustra was indeed written by the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. However, the music - the opening theme from Also Sprach Zarathustra - is by the German composer Richard Strauss.

Thank you It was played on classic but I went into the tunnel on the M25 so was unable to hear the name of the composer.
When I was in school there was a version of this music in the charts called Also Sprake Zarathurala or something. Was that the unstrumental one I wonder that I had on a 45?
