The Chambers definition of what I expect you have is virtually identical to the whole clue! I don't see any wordplay, but maybe that's usual for that crossword.

Sorry I really am having a bad day. Been into chambers and searched for mob it but can't find think I must be daft or not seeing something. Please put me right. Thanks for your help
Agree with NAC. from my Chambers:-
Mob it- to go unobtrusively to an unfashionable part of the theatre.
If you have the 13th edition it is the entry after Mob cap on page 984.
