If you go away a lot as i do, and come back in say 2 - 3 weeks.

Leave the jug full up past the purifier soak or leave it totally empty.?
Is the water unuseable in any of these cases when use is resumed ? I always throw it out rinse it out and start again with the same purifier refill. Is this ok ?

Use tap water - unless you live in a very strange area, almost all water in the UK is fine, (and I speak as someone who has lived abroad for nearly 20 years).
I get where you are coming from - if it were me I would empty it before I went away and refill on my return, empty and then refill again , as if I were inserting a new filter, but using the same filter.
jennykenny - uk water may be potable (drinkable) from the tap, but if like me you live in a hard water area, it taste disgusting!! Long Live my water filter jug!!
It is very important to know which one may work for you. You have to consider such as water quality, water pressure and required space as you are sure which one would be the best one. Now, look at the guide of water purifier to choose the best one for your home. Further details you can check this out- http://www.ewaterpurifier.com/best-water-purifier-reviews/
