I am on a message board of mums who gave birth in June 05. we recently took a poll and only about 50% of the babies are walking. Some arent even standing up yet. Although its natural to be worried that your baby may not be keeping up with others i think that the age when you may need to discuss this with your Health visitor or GP is about 15 months old.
Im sure that your child is just enjoying the surroundings he / she has at the moment and has need to explore further.
As a mum of a 12 month old who walked at 9 months i have to say that i envy the parents who can still keep baby in a safe area without having to watch what they are climbing on next or running after.
enjoy your baby as a baby, they grow up too fast.
sorry that should read 'has NO need'
Hi, my son was almost 15 months old before he walked. I was told that if he wasn't walking by 18 months to see my GP / health visitor. I know plenty of other children who were around the same age as my son before they walked too so don't worry there's plenty of time yet.
I have had 4 children, who walked at 9 months,10 months,11 months and 15 months so I wouldnt worry about it at all.
My son did not walk until he was 16 months old. Now, my son is a prized kindergarten student. Every child is different, and they also learn at different speeds. Don't worry, if you are that concerned you can try to connect with the Infant Toddler Program to get information on what is right for your child.
When one of my girls was 16 months she showed no interest in walking - she would stand up and then go nowhere. Like you we were starting to get a bit concerned. Then one day she just stood up , walked the length of the room, picked a toy off the shelf and walked back again! I called her over and she strolled over as if she'd been doing it for months - never crawled again.
As everybody's already said children do things when they are good and ready. As long as she seems he/she seems to be happy and healthy don't worry about it.
Oh, and ignore other mums telling you what their ' child prodigies' can do - there's always one that's walking, talking, juggling, writing computer programmes by the time they're a year old.LOL
My daughter was nearly 18 months old when she first walked. Before that she whizzed around everywhere on her bottom using her arms. As long as your child is developing normally in other ways, don't worry. Averages are made up of extremes. I was once told that one of my children was too tall because she was way off the chart for her age! I laughed when they wanted to refer her to a specialist and refused, saying that both my husband and I were quite tall (not excessively) so it was only to be expected. She grew up to be the same height as me. It's hard not to compare your child with others but the best advice is to try not to. Every child learns and develops differently. Just enjoy him or her because they grow up so quickly.
One of my sons didn`t walk until he was 2 & 2 months. Sod all wrong with him, just to lazy. His brothers got him everything he wanted ,so why should he waste his energy. lol
our son didnt start walking till he was 16 months but now he's got going we cant keep up with the little ******.I wouldn't worry all children start at different ages..
