In last night`s TV "Sorted" (as in post-men in sorting-office) much was made of a newspaper advert for a `nice` woman which appeared as `white` woman. This reminded me of when I put an advert in our paper for casino staff. We needed Blackjack dealers, but this appeared as BLACK DEALERS wanted. The paper was most off-hand when I told them there was a mistake until I them what what their paper said - then they acted quick. Has anyone any worse experiences of adverts appearing wrong.

Our local paper had a classified ad selling a rucksack ... but somehow it got past the proof readers ... spelled with an 'F'...
How come you only want Blackjack dealers? bit of an unusual request. Casinos usually just want dealers.
sorry, answer to your original q. No, I haven't had the misfortune of a wrongly worded ad.

The reason I asked about the dealers is that, in my day (lol), we taught roulette first and then Blackjack etc.
our paper had an advert for a female spade cat the other week

beryllium: What happened in your experience is of no interest at all!. From 1964 until casinos were actually made legitimate in 1970 everything was on a day-to-day basis.
what are you talking about BIG BIG John? I worked at The International Sporting Club fromm 88 until I retired recently. I was just curious as to why you wanted a Blackjack dealer only tis all pmsl @ your slight rudeness... but thats to be expected. Just wondered where you are as I may have worked with you... without any offence intended towards you at all... so sorry you took my posts as that.
BIG BIG JOHN are you saying you were advertising for casino staff whilst it was illegal?
This appeared in the paper, but wasn't an adverts error:

Last summer the local weekly paper ran a story on a new children's summer camp promoting diverse, multicultural experiences for its young customers. It was held on the campus of a local university. Well, someone left a few brain cells at home when they named the program. Yes, camper + diversity + university = Camperversity.

The camp's name was featured in the headline, and suffice to say that there wasn't a soul in town that didn't read that story.

This year the program is called Camp Rainbow.
We saw a sign today that said "large customer car park"
I just wondered where the small customers park !!

Also, I saw an ad for a Black ladies coat, rather than a ladies black coat.

Beryllium, I repeat, your experience of casino staff - no matter how important you may think, is just your little world and really is of no interest in this thread - not unless you are suggesting that I did not advertise as said. I really cannot the exact wording, it is only the Black Dealers which stuck in my mind. If you only started in 1988, you know NOTHING of the early days when the legal position and indeed the continued operations were changing daily. This thread was meant as a light-hearted look at adverts, not a vehicle for your nonsensical comments (no doubt in your dotage) which add nothing whatsoever.

I said the casinos were made legitimate in 1970, that is not to say they were illegal previously. It was a grey area for many years [edited by AB].
I saw a sign in Thomas the bakers today for Ginger Persons, before I seen the price underneath I thought it was an ad for a Saturday job, as it was presented in the same way. Being Ginger I thought "eh? why is that going to make a difference?" doh.
What a horrible rude nasty little man you are then. And btw, I did work with the old hands before they were made legal. And yes, I do believe you are talking bole ax.
Now, go off and play with your willy, as stated in a previous thread.
Any 'normal' old hands in the industry, are more than happy to have a giggle about the business. So no I dont believe you were ever in the casinos.

Thank God I'm dying.
I take back my last sentence.

I only wanted to have a chat with another casino fellow.
Our local paper's tv section some years back advertised a saturday matinee - Chitty Chitty Gangbang.
Parking is restricted at the private estate where my mother in law lives, a few spaces opposite her house are reserved for "flat residents only" which always makes me smile!
