OK this is a long shot but you guys are usually very good at coming up with some suggestions! I just remember the quick jist of it. It was set in the 50s (probably made then too) and is about a woman who starts work in a publishing house as a secretary but proof reads manuscripts that come in for her boss and soon starts to work her way into career reserved for men in those days. I think it may have also had a romantic interest but can't remember who the actors were.. not a lot to go on but any suggestions would be good.

Sounds vaguely familiar, can't remember what it's called but think it might have had Cary Grant or Katharine Hepburn (or both).
It's niggling me now. If it is the same one, i saw it on TV and it was in colour.

Yes it was in colour and although I don't think the actor were as well known as Cary Grant or Katharine Hepburn it was along those lines.
