As you can see I posted an email re my online banking today - now I'm really frightened. Went to my emails and I had clicked onto an unusual email I think asking me to log into investments hub - that's when I couldn't get on.

I went to that email and looked at it and then an earlier email from Santander which had the Santander Logo. This email had no Logo.

What have I done. Thanks for any help.

When I was on the Santander online account today - it said if you can't log in contact us which I did via Santander. I tried again like much earlier on today and it said you have already contacted us and new passcode etc is in the post. Am I in trouble.

If the potentially suspicious email addresses you by your name (e.g. "Dear Hilda Bloggs") you're probably OK.

If it addresses you as "Dear Customer" it sounds dodgy.

[NB: Being addressed by your name isn't a guarantee that it's not from a scammer. I've had a series of similar emails, attempting to scam me, that include my full name, my telephone number and, with the exception of my house number, my full postal address].

If you can access your account, log in and change your password. Also, of course, look for any recent unusual activity.

If you're still worried, contact Santander. With your hearing difficulties I'm not sure how much use a telephone number is to you but, in case it helps, the number to call is 0800 9 123 123. (Lines are open 24/7)

thanks Chris - I will phone a number a girl I met just last week gave me their branch number so it is a Belfast number - I'll be standing at the phone at 9.00.

Chris - I will give you bits of the email without giving personal details. Could you look at for me. thanks
Although I'm usually semi-nocturnal, I need to get to bed fairly soon tonight (because of personal commitments tomorrow), so I won't be around for long but I'll try to respond to anything you throw at me for a short while.

However many fake emails look identical to genuine ones (apart from 'Dear Customer', or similar) because they've been copied word for word from something that was genuinely sent out by a bank (or similar) previously, so viewing the text doesn't always help much.

don't worry Chris - you go onto bed cos it is detailed I'll be beside the phone at 9.00 - thanks for looking

that was the fake on I am asuming - the one I didn't send to you was re my new credit card and had the Santander LOgo

I rang and got an English girl and told her to slow down - I asked to look at my account. but my heart sank as she was - yes I am looking - but can't sorta see it - AND THEN SHE SAW - MY MONEY IS THERE. IT'S NOT TOO MUCH BUT IT IS MINE.

THAT WILL BE A SHOCK AGAIN. I honestly don't think the Banks should be contacting unneccessarily via emails.

Oh thank god. and thanks Chris for supplying the number

I think I'm still drowsy - I said to her "if I could through that phone - I would give you a hug" She laughed bless her. (It is easy to do - I don't think I will answer any of my bankers' emails again. If I want to know my business I will log in myself. Oh the new passcode etc is on its way.
I've just looked at some emails I've had from Santander. They follow the pattern you've illustrated (with my surname and the last part of my postcode at the top), so everything seems OK with that part of the email you've received.

Further (AND HERE'S THE REALLY IMPORTANT BIT) the link in your email ( https://investmenthub.santander.co.uk/ ) appears to be 100% TOTALLY SAFE. While it's possible for scammers to create links which look remarkably like genuine ones, they can't create a dodgy link which includes a genuine domain name. I've clicked on the link you've provided and I've no doubt that it goes to the REAL Santander website.

Just as a final check though, please re-visit the email in question and click on that link yourself. (i.e. DON'T click on the link shown in this thread. Go to the ORIGINAL email and click). If the web address shown at the top of your browser page looks exactly like this
http://www.upl.co/uploads/JJURL1539043687.jpg
then, as I see it, you've absolutely NOTHING to worry about.

bless you - you and I were typing together and got the same answers. Off to your bed now Chris. Thanks again for that number - I would not have thought to ring at this time of night.
I would advise that someone edit the e-mail details so that the username is deleted for security reasons.
Either that or remove the answer now that JJ's question has been dealt with.

good morning guys - with my anxiety I musta published some personal info - glad it has been taken off - I just went to panic mode.

But I am finishing this post off in telling myself never never ever again will I click into ANYTHING relating to any bank Santander. In fact if I can I will unsubscribe. It is far too dangerous for myself and other people who would just innocently click on to those links. Thanks to whoever took it off.
glad all is well conne..probably chris took it off
