A friend of mine's dog has a major cancer operation the other week and it cost roughly £2k. Now the same operation on a person would probably have been £50k. Essentially the same operation etc so why is medical care for people so astronomical? Yes I know we have the NHS etc but the costs are still paid.

bednobs the figure is irrelevant, the question it's very simple:
Why is people care astronomically expensive compared to pet care? jeez!
I do not accept that inferior treatment for people is acceptable.
Do you have a list of comparative costs for various treatments for folk and animals?
TTT...again you keep mentioning the U.S where the question is about veterinary practice costs and NHS costs in the UK.....the UK.
anyway One simple explanation is the difference in wages of for example vets and doctors vet nurses and nurses. Dog food and people food. Running costs of hospitals compared to vet practices. The intensity and length of stay for dogs vs humans
I had a camera down my throat recently and there was six medics in the room. That could explain the cost.
The N.H.S. is groaning under the the strain of mass immigration.
We were warned.
Now go to the back of the queue.
Nonsense.
Do the math
What math?
send home all the immigrants who keep the NHS going. Then do the math.
No, let in the people we need, and keep out the ones we don't need but who use the services anyway.
Simples.
