Tesco have made a cock-up :

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/shopping/2018/02/tesco-takes-payments-from-customers-cards-months-after-they-went-shopping

Not sure how much sympathy I have for the "it's made me overdrawn" mob now howling for Tesco's blood?

I always check all payments have gone through (especially if times are tight) and balance the books each week/month - if there were some unclaimed payments I'd make sure I kept the cash in my account against the day that they were eventually processed?

I go thro every transaction, every month
but I have been cloned more than once

You should see the look on some of the housewives when I say that every transaction in the household is scrutinised. - oo-er Mrs!

seems the only way not prevent this tesco thing from happening
One time I spent £45 in the corner shop. When I looked at my bank statement they'd taken £450. They paid it back.
I must admit I dont have a clue how much is in my accounts but one thing I have always done is reconcile credit card payments with the statement. The problem with debit cards is that they are buried in all the other transactions so not easy to trace so personally I am still a cash man - especially in the pub (Had too many shocks morning after the champagne bars with the Amex Gold in the late 80's early 90's). In addition the credit card gives me cash back so no incentive to use a debit card.

Thanks everyone - I admit I have been getting a bit lax in asking for receipts for 'contactless' payments.

I still always check the amounts online, but would have no evidence if the payment wasn't taken correctly (or in a timely manner) - need to get a bit more rigorous I think.
