Does MSN leave an archive of conversations on your computer ? i.e is there a file written which records what you have said during discussions. If so, can this be accessed and printed out ?

That depends whether or not you have the option of saving conversations on or not. If you do, then you will be able to find your Chat Logs in My Documents, under "My Chat Logs" or something like that.
As above.. however the file path is (for MSN v7 and below - Not Messenger Live!)

..My Documents\My Received Files\[[email protected]]\[Log Name].xml

These are generally seperated by contact email address, and can be read quite effectivley by opening the file in a web browser such as IE or Firefox.
